Annointing of the Sick
Sacrament of the Sick:
Sacrament of the Sick is the proper name for this sacrament which before Vatican II was called the Sacrament of Extreme Unction with Last Rites. One of the reasons it was given that name was because it was only given in extreme situations namely a person who was dying or was seriously injured to the point of death. Today we call it the Sacrament of the Sick because it is administered when someone is ill, up in age, is having surgery and for several other reasons. It is administered to primarily help the person get well and so we hope that the person is alert when the sacrament is administered. This does not mean we cannot do it when someone is seriously ill and not very alert but we ask that you so not wait until then to call a priest. So before someone goes to the hospital for surgery or the like, contact one of the priests and we will gladly administer the sacrament to the person in need.
Visiting the Sick:
If someone is in the hospital please call the rectory to let us know. There is no way for us to know you are there as the hospitals do not always call and let us know. While talking about the sick, if somone is confined to home for a period of time, please call the rectory. We can arrange for someone to bring you Communion on a regular basis. We have several Eucharistic Ministers besides the priests who will be gald to visit with you and bring Communion.
